WSPC member, Jazel Jane M. Bautista, RPh, owner of Acts Pharmacy and Healthcare Services in Tacoma, Washington, was awarded the 2024 Immunization Champion Award for Washington State.
The Immunization Champion Award, hosted by the Association of Immunization Managers (AIM) and funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), recognizes individuals going above and beyond each year to promote immunizations in their communities.
Jazel works alongside her husband, Wilber, a Medical Technologist. Persevering together, Jazel and Wilbur have been able to serve Tacoma, Washington, for almost six years while collaborating closely with their community and nearby providers. As a full-service pharmacy, its mission is to meet the healthcare needs of its community by providing personal pharmacy and clinical services beyond traditional medication dispensing.
- We Accept individual differences.
- We Care deeply about the well-being of our community.
- We Think beyond quantity.
- We Strengthen relationships with the healthcare team.
Jazel has played an active role in her community and was a champion regarding vaccinations. With funding from the SBA’s Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and COVID Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program, Jazel and her team worked to respond to the urgent needs of their customers by offering delivery prescription medication and sold out COVID supplies such as hand sanitizer and locally made mask. When the COVID-19 vaccine became available, they worked closely with the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department to establish Acts Pharmacy as a vaccine clinic. They offered in-person vaccinations and mobile services for adult family homes, local schools, colleges, churches, and community organizations. The Acts Pharmacy team administered 1,320 doses and supported 51 community vaccine events in 2023.
Jazel has partnered with 36 groups and organizations locally and nationwide, including the Washington State Pharmacy Association and the National Asian Pacific Center on Aging, to reach diverse populations. Acts Pharmacy is the only local participant in the Vaccines for Children’s (VFC) Program and works closely with WSPA and the Washington Vaccine Association to improve pharmacy enrollment in the VFC program. As a subject matter expert for the Department of Health and the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, Jazel advocates for better public health-pharmacy relationships.
Jazel and her team’s tireless dedication has won Acts Pharmacy multiple other accolades, including the Representation in Business and Resiliency in Business Awards by the Tacoma County Chamber of Commerce, the Small Business Administration’s THRIVE Emerging Leaders Class of 2022, and recognition from the Washington Department of Health.
Thank you to Jazel and her team at Acts Pharmacy and Healthcare Services for all you have done to play a crucial role in promoting the health of our communities. Your dedication and strength to your patients and community are widely recognized. Congratulations on this achievement.
