Providing Pharmaceutical Care for Small Animals

Summary
This activity will provide participants with a working knowledge of the most common principles of therapy, toxicology, regulations and counseling points related to small animal patients. This will assist the participant in providing optimal pharmaceutical care.

At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
1. Identify important anatomical and physiological considerations that influence drug therapy in small animal patients.
2. Discuss important toxicology considerations for dispensing medications for use in small animals.
3. Summarize regulatory boundaries and best business practices for dispensing medications to small animal patients.
4. Demonstrate comprehensive counseling and monitoring for caregivers administering medications to small animal patients.

This knowledge-based activity is targeted to pharmacists and technicians.

The American College of Apothecaries (ACA) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Presenter: Natalie Young, PharmD, FACVP
Natalie Young was born and raised in North Carolina. She studied at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics before proceeding to earn her degree in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After working as a cancer researcher, agricultural chemist and becoming a mother, she went back to graduate school to receive her Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
